Create an abandoned-cart email sequence

The cart is abandoned and all that follows is one "you forgot an item" email. You get three emails with different arguments, subject lines and timing.

Medium · 25 min · set up once

What you get

Email 2 of 3 — 24 hours later, subject "Your size is still here"

Hi {name}, {items} are still waiting in your cart
for {total} — we're holding them until {hold_until}.
Delivery to your address: {delivery_eta}.

Everything in braces comes from the order data; the agent
does not invent it. The discount appears only in email 3.

A sample on made-up data — your numbers will be your own.

Who it fits

  • Carts get abandoned and nothing follows except a single "you forgot an item" reminder.
  • There is a sequence, but all three emails say the same thing and the last repeats the first.

When it won't work

Cart contents aren't passed to the mailing tool: without items and totals the emails read as generic.

How the agent does it

1

Set the boundaries

Name the discount you're genuinely willing to give, and on what. Say which fields you can pull from the cart: items, total, hold time.

2

Run the writing

Three emails, three different arguments — not three reminders. Numbers stay as placeholders instead of being written into the copy.

3

Read it through

The sequence goes to your whole list, so one wrong block multiplies across every recipient. Check the delivery and discount promises.

What you set

Connect Unisender and email. Manually: your assortment and average order value, the discount you're willing to give, any legal limits on the offer.

Prompt for the agent

Write a chain of three abandoned-cart emails: [how many hours until the first], [the second], [the third]. Make the mechanics different: the first — a reminder and removing a technical barrier, the second — an answer to the reason for hesitation [delivery / price / size choice], the third — a deadline [what exactly is limited]. Write only about what I listed. Don't invent discounts, free delivery, "only 2 left", testimonials and ratings: if a mechanic requires such a block — put [filled in from data] and describe where the value comes from. For each email: three subject line variants and a preheader, the text, one button with its label, the send time and the condition under which the email doesn't go out (order paid, item out of stock).

Check the result

Check the email chain. List: — promises I never made: discounts, delivery times, return guarantees; — numbers and testimonials you wrote yourself instead of marking as a placeholder; — places where the second and third emails repeat the first instead of adding an argument; — subject lines that lead to spam: caps, "free", extra punctuation; — emails that will arrive at a bad moment — at night, the day after payment; — what a lawyer needs to check if the offer has a deadline.

A second prompt — the agent uses it to review its own work and show what's left for you.
